Tramway Lines in Rome

While writing Part 10 of this diary, I mentioned that combining the use of tramway lines 3 and 19 allows the visitor to see several important sites as well as  hop oon - hop off bus.
Indeed that is true in general when considering the entire tramway network of Rome.

VITA DA B&B - APPARTAMENTO O B&B

Qualche settimana fa ci siamo addentrati nel dilemma "albergo o b&b". Supponiamo che il nostro eroe, cioè il viaggiatore, abbia deciso di non essere assolutamente un tipo da albergo, magari unicamente per una vile questione di pecunia - eh sì, gli alberghi in genere sono parecchio più cari - ed abbia quindi scartato tale soluzione.

Pensate forse che abbia finito di tribolare? Assolutamente no, perché a questo punto dovrà scegliere se prendere una stanza in un b&b o affittare un intero appartamento.
E qui le cose si fanno più complicate perché si tratta di due soluzioni piuttosto diverse.

Ci sono stati, e ci sono, altri grandi calciatori che hanno legato il loro nome in maniera indissolubile a quello dell'unica squadra per cui hanno giocato, a parte magari l'inizio da giovanissimi o qualche scampolo di fine carriera.
Dalla mia giovinezza ricordo Rivera, Mazzola, Riva, poi successivamente Bergomi, Baresi, Maldini e in tempi più recenti Del Piero; o, in Inghilterra Terry e Gerrard, bandiere del Chelsea e del Liverpool.
E' successo anche in altri sport di squadra, ad esempio nel basket, sport che forse mi piace anche più del calcio. L'anno scorso hanno smesso di giocare due grandissimi come Kobe Bryant, bandiera dei Los Angeles Lakers, squadra in cui ha militato per 20 anni, e Tim Duncan, per 19 anni nei San Antonio Spurs.

From St. Peter to Porta Portese

I will tell you the full truth and that is that I did not enter in the St. Peter's Basilica or in the Vatican Museums.
Even if that was my original idea when, in the morning, I left San Lorenzo Guest House, once I got there I changed my schedule. Weather was so nice, indeed bad weather is not a very usual event in Rome, that I thought that staying inside was not the best idea.
The lesson I got in the previous days was that, when in Rome, first of all, before visiting museum and sites, one must feel the ideal that is behind this unique city. The best way to get it is to walk around.

IL ROSETO COMUNALE DI ROMA

 

Maggio, mese delle Rose

Incastonato sull’Aventino, sorge uno dei giardini più romantici di Roma: il Roseto Comunale.
E’ uno spazio dove la primavera tripudia in ogni angolo; già dal III sec. A.C. vi era un tempio dedicato alla Dea Flora, importante luogo di culto.
A quel tempo, In primavera venivano organizzati nel vicino Circo Massimo dei particolari festeggiamenti in onore della dea.

Even if my job involved oil refining and petrochemical processes, the main business of the company where I worked for 30 years is water management. Because of that I know that the problems related to water supply and discharge are always challenging, even with today's technologies.
The rise of ancient Rome over the other cities, becoming a super-power and the founder of a new concept of state, a concept that is the one still used, cannot be separated, in my opinion, by the engineering capabilities and by the water managent technologies that Romans developped.

Going down for the Capitol Hill and proceeding along Via del Teatro Marcello, on the right one can see the Theater of Marcellus, one of the living monuments of Rome. It is dedicated to the nephew of Augustus and it was the biggest theater in ancient Rome. After falling out of use it has been transformed, along the centuries, in a residential building.

Maybe April 21, 753 BC is not the actual date of the foundation, even though recent archeological studies found out that the city started to grow in that period.

VITA DA B&B - O ROMA O MORTE!

Anche un viaggio all'apparenza semplice, come quello tra Napoli e Roma, può talvolta essere una vera avventura. Ne sanno qualcosa Vincenzo e Gianpiero, ospiti di San Lorenzo Guest House, che ieri, martedì 18 aprile, partiti da Napoli a metà pomeriggio per raggiungere Roma per impegni di lavoro, si sono trovati nel bel mezzo del traffico del contro-esodo pasquale.

Mano a mano che la loro marcia di avvicinamento procedeva, mi hanno tenuto informato dei loro (lentissimi progressi)
